Lady in the Microfiche is a trip hop/acid jazz band that takes influence from such artists as Bjork, Kurt Weill, Stephin Merritt, Augustus Pablo, and Portishead, amongst many others. Founded by Ellen Warkentine and NatureboyRD in 2017, they are currently in the final stages of releasing their debut album.
Ellen Warkentine is a theatrical multi-instrumentalist, composer and artist based in Los Angeles. Her melodic work references avant-pop, early jazz, and vaudeville. She is a long-time collaborator with award-winning Four Larks Theatre. She is Also co-creator and composer of the absurd “fauxpera” LOLPERA, and has written music and musical directed for productions at Sacred Fools Theater Company, The Garage Theatre in Long Beach, Long Beach Playhouse, UCB, and Four Clowns, among others.
NatureboyRD has spent the last 2 decades making beats as instrumentals and for various artists, and also playing keyboards in bands such as The Fiction, ComeUnity Band, and Ital Vibes. He is no stranger to hip hop, electronica, and dub production, but has for many years dreamed of doing a full on trip hop project with the right vocalist.
The two met through the Riot Stage theatre company and have teamed up to create a unique yet strangely vintage sound that resonates with the soul and sends chills down the spine.
